Almost ten years ago, one topic seemed far from the reality of Brazilian Public Lighting: billing the electricity consumed based on data generated by the Remote Management systems themselves. Today, this debate is closer than ever to becoming practice in the national electricity sector.
In a recent participation at CPIIC 2026, Felipe Fulgêncio, CEO of M2M, presented the history of this discussion.
“We have been working on and thinking about this ecosystem since 2016, the first times we presented the needs, what had to happen so that we could effectively pay for the energy used in Public Lighting systems.”Felipe Fulgêncio, CEO of M2M
According to him, in 2016 the proposal still sounded like a distant dream. Since then, INMETRO and ANEEL regulations have advanced, and the sector is heading toward the last step of this journey: the creation of new processes within the power distribution companies themselves.
This trajectory says a lot about the role M2M has chosen to play in the market. More than supplying technology, the company positions itself as an active advocate in the discussion on energy billing in Public Lighting, closely following the regulatory and technological trends of the Brazilian electricity sector.
“Rather than complaining about what has not yet been done, I bring here the view that we have already done practically everything and only the last piece remains to be solved.”Felipe Fulgêncio, CEO of M2M
A concrete proposal: a single API for billing
It was also at CPIIC that M2M presented a proposal to accelerate this process: a Research and Development project aimed at creating a single data integration platform in Brazil, with a single API for exchanging Remote Management energy billing information.
For Rafael Mesquita Gondim, Commercial Director of M2M, this leading role is a direct reflection of the way the company builds its partnerships.
“We don’t come to Distribution Companies and Municipalities with just a ready-made solution. We come to build, together with those who face this challenge every day, the path that is still missing for energy billing to truly happen in Brazil.”Rafael Mesquita Gondim, Commercial Director of M2M
Energy billing based on Remote Management data remains one of the main points of attention for the electricity sector and Public Lighting in the coming years. And M2M remains where it has always been in this conversation: ahead, following the trends and helping the sector move forward with more efficiency, transparency and Innovation.
